TVET Acceleration Pathways in The Southeast Asian Countries
Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is a vital component of the education system. TVET facilitates and provides human resources that support economic growth by supplying a skilled workforce.
The importance of TVET was recognized and affirmed at the 25th session of the UNESCO General Conference on November 10, 1989, in Paris, France. TVET requires further improvement and acceleration to enhance its quality and align with the Education Roadmap 2030.
Considering the impact of COVID-19 on education at all levels and in all forms—including the partial or complete closure of schools—the existing challenges have multiplied, particularly for governments committed to achieving SDG 4.
TVET Acceleration Pathways in The Southeast Asian Countries was prepared by the UNESCO Office in Jakarta in collaboration with the DESMA Center. This study presents TVET Acceleration Pathways in five countries (Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Timor-Leste) to achieve the targets of SDG 4 indicators. Specifically, it addresses targets 4.3 and 4.4, which focus on ensuring equitable, affordable, and quality access to TVET; and on increasing the number of skilled youth and adults who secure decent jobs and engage in entrepreneurship.
