DESMA Center validates challenges and opportunities, policy recommendations, and strategies for strengthening the recreation park industry ecosystem in Indonesia in Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with related tourism stakeholders. The activity took place on October 29 2024 in Bandung.

"This document will be followed by more specific discussions next year. Let's build Indonesia's theme park sector together," said Mr. Rendy Rusdian, Chair of the Industrial Governance Working Team, Directorate of Industrial Management, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf).

The largest number of amusement and recreation parks in Indonesia are in 3 regions, including 26% in West Java, 15% in East Java and 13% in Central Java. This contributes to labor absorption according to annual data, namely 3,429 Indonesian citizens (Tourist Attraction Object Statistics, BPS, 2023).

Founder & Executive Director of DESMA Center Mrs. Wiwik Mahdayani explained innovative strategies and best practices that can be applied to improve the quality and competitiveness of recreational parks in Indonesia.

After the presentation, discussions continued involving local governments, associations and recreational park industry players guided by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy team and the DESMA Center. The suggestions and input provided during the discussion provided a comprehensive perspective on the challenges and opportunities of the policy aspects of the recreation park industry in Indonesia.

This FGD is a forum for tourism stakeholders to exchange ideas to map challenges and opportunities as well as concrete steps for developing sustainable recreation parks in Indonesia.
